Survivors of Trauma

Traumatic experiences in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood can impact us in many different and unexpected ways. It can prevent us from developing the type of relationships we want, make the world feel unsafe and dangerous, and interfere with our ability to engage with the world from day-to-day. The types of traumas we experience can be just as diverse, and many times, over our lifetime, we may have to overcome more than one.

The effects of trauma on people can vary in their severity level and each person's experience of the symptoms of trauma are unique. Some may have nightmares, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts about the events, while others may choose to avoid the people or places that remind them of the event. Many people experience anxiety and fear, and develop a mistrust of others and of the world. In some cases, the trauma remains ongoing and each day is an exercise in survival. Traumatic stress and traumatic grief are complex and can feel overwhelming; you may worry that you will never feel better or find peace within yourself.

My job as your therapist is to hold your hope when you cannot hold it yourself, help create a sense of safety within our sessions, and help reduce your pain and distress. I will help you on your journey to build fortitude so that you are able to face life's challenges and live the meaningful life you want.
